Meet The Divine Mercy Ministry Team
Father Jason VanBorssum
Father Jason serves as the Senior Priest and Pastor of Divine Mercy Catholic Church. He was called to Divine Mercy Catholic Church in January 2025 by Bishop Robert Lyons and was installed in June 2025 as Senior Priest and Pastor of the parish by Archbishop Todd Bell.
After a career in the entertainment industry (as an animation film producer and Hollywood studio executive), Fr. Jason dedicated himself to full-time discernment, spiritual formation, and parish ministry. In 2015, he entered seminary at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific and completed his Master of Divinity degree (M.Div.) with emphases in Church History, New Testament, Liturgics, Practical Theology, and Christian Ethics. Originally ordained in the Anglican (Anglo-Catholic) tradition, he was incardinated as a Catholic priest in 2022, serving at Saint Matthias Catholic Church in Rockwall, Texas. In addition to serving in parish ministry, Fr. Jason is a Certified Spiritual Director, and since 2022 has worked as a hospice and elder care chaplain.
An entrepreneurial thinker and builder, Fr. Jason is trained in church planting and strategic ministry development. His passions include “front porch” community-based ministries (including Spanish-language ministry), teaching, preaching, Jewish-Christian relations, spiritual direction and mentoring, and Catholic liturgical history. A native of Southern California, Fr. Jason grew up in Los Angeles and moved to the Denver area in 2025 after a decade of living and serving in North Texas.
Father Michael Messina
Father Michael planted Divine Mercy Catholic Church in 2016. He retired from parish ministry in June 2025, though he fills in at Divine Mercy whenever needed. He is still active in ministry, whether it be a wedding, baptism, funeral, or just a listening ear. For Father Michael, the heart of ministry never changes - it is always about God's people! Father Michael has served at parishes in Colorado and Wisconsin over the last 25 years, as well as serving the homeless and as a chaplain at an assisted living community.
Tania Messina
Father Michael's wife, Tania, serves behind the scenes at Divine Mercy Catholic Church. She coordinates the music during the Mass, serves as Treasurer of the church, and handles many of the technical issues.
Brother David Raymond
Brother David is a Colorado native and serves to help the church in whatever capacity needed. He is devoted to serving God’s people as an acolyte, lector and a member of the prayer team. Every Sunday Brother David makes sure the sanctuary is set up and ready for Mass as well as he helps with home visits and ministers to the community around him.
Sister Pam Duran
Sister Pam moved here from Ohio, found love and at the same time a deepening of her faith because of her husband. She has served the church since she was 9 years old. First in vacation bible school, then in the church choir and she taught Sunday school. Later on with her husband Carlos, they taught Confirmation to a group of rival gangs. Together they were able to share their faith with them and influenced many of them to change their lives. She continues to serves as a lector and on the prayer team.
